Exciting opportunities are available for those who have energy, community awareness and strong skills to continue the growth and sustainability of one of Northern Tasmania’s premier cultural events.
Now in its 9th year, the Tamar Valley Writers Festival is seeking expressions of interest for key executive positions as well as general Board and sub-committee vacancies as it re-imagines itself after the enormous challenges of the Covid epidemic to become self-sustaining by 2024.
This is a wonderful opportunity to volunteer in a supportive environment to raise community awareness of the amazing literary talent within Tasmania as well as welcoming and sharing ideas with guest speakers from the mainland.
Expressions of interest are being keenly sought, particularly, for the role of President, which will become vacant through retirement on May 31, 2022.
The role of President demands a self-starter with initiative, who demonstrates excellent communication and networking skills as well as a proven passion for literature and participatory events. Ideally, the successful aspirant should live in and have a strong affinity with the Greater Tamar Valley region. The President’s role is as a volunteer, but it does offer a modest honorarium paid quarterly.
The volunteer roles of Treasurer, Secretary and Public Officer will become vacant as of the Annual General Meeting, with a date to be confirmed later in the year.
As the Festival grows the volunteer Board needs to delegate organisational threads to volunteer sub-committees, each of which would have a designated Board member as its leader.
The following skill sets are being sought to ensure strong, sustainable volunteer sub-committees that offer fresh ideas, energy and outcomes:
The Tamar Valley Writers Festival is a biennial multi-day event that has earned a reputation for excellence and is on a confident financial footing with strong support from Events Tasmania and the West Tamar Council.
The Committee is interested in contracting the services of a Festival Program Manager to drive and deliver the Festival’s vibrant, innovative and inclusive calendar of events through to February 2023.
The time commitment for executive roles involves monthly meetings, an annual full-day strategy workshop; and availability to assist on rosters for the successful staging of TVWF events through the year. The time commitment for other volunteer Board members is as required on their respective sub-committees and to volunteer on rosters for the successful staging of TVWF events throughout the year. Attendance at the 2022 Festival in October is a required commitments for all Board members. The Festival goes into full recess from mid-December to mid-January.
Please email your expression of interest to tamarvalleywritersfestival.com.au or call TVWF President Mary Machen, 0421 022 158 for more details.
