What’s on

The Tamar Valley Writers Festival will be held in September 2018 and with so many masterclasses on offer, emerging writers and audiences will have the opportunity to engage directly with some of Australia’s best writers.

The Festival opens with a gala cocktail party to welcome all guest writers and speakers. This celebration will also be open to the public and will set the vibe for the weekend program ahead.

Saturday morning we ease into the program with a yoga session before two jam-packed days of panel discussions, interviews and masterclasses presented by the likes of New York Times and internationally recognised author Amie Kaufman and award-winning playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer, best-selling author Rachael Treasure, debut Tasmanian writers Robbie Arnott and Shirley Patton, and Launceston’s own Logie Award-winning television scriptwriter with supernatural powers, Vicki Madden. Also back for his third Festival appearance due to popular demand will be human rights advocate Julian Burnside.

There’s nothing daunting dull about our workshops. You may be  familiar with the term life-drawing but have you heard of life-writing? We have developed a unique session where attendees develop a fictional story behind the model. We can’t wait to read what they create!

Saturday night will be microphones off to allow guest speakers, writers and visitors to mingle and share stories with a Tasmanian wine, gin or boutique beer in their hand, fabulous barbecue fare as local musicians play into the night.

On Sunday we’re staging a ‘Breakfast with the Stars’ where you can sit down to your cereal and croissants and maybe find sitting beside you such literati as blogger and writer Michael Jacobson, debut crime-writer Tim Ayliffe or Channel 7 sports journalist Neil Kearney. Guest speaker for this special Breakfast will be Launceston-born Pip Courtney, beloved Australia-wide as the presenter of ABC Television’s Landline program.
